Lisa Norvell, RYT
"And the day came when the risk to remain closed in a bud became too painful than the risk it took to bloom" ~ Anais Nin
Lisa had been practicing yoga for almost 10 years before she found herself on the path to becoming a teacher. Her giving spirit is committed to reaching out to her community and regularly works with "at-risk" teens through the non-profit organization The Art of Yoga Project as well as bringing yoga to Hospice volunteers and nurses. She is a constant reminder to keep an open heart...no matter what we carry and how it has come to be…never let it shut us down. Through an open heart we find gratitude, forgiveness, compassion, and most importantly, love.
Training
Lisa has recently obtained her teaching certification from White Lotus Yoga Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA where she resonated with the philosophy that Yoga is Life. She holds a B.A. in Communications and is a certified Holistic Life Coach. She tries not to get caught up in a particular way or style of yoga... for her, yoga is the somatic piece of experience that helps us to work with our body in a safe and accepting way. The body always knows and tells the truth if we are willing to pay attention.
Classes
Lisa’s vinyasa-styled classes reflect her deeply nurturing and compassionate heart. It is her sincere desire to create an atmosphere of physical, emotional, and spiritual safety and support during practice. With plenty of inspiring music to feed the soul, and always poetry, reflections, or meditations to facilitate the alignment of one's physical, emotional and intellectual self on the path towards Samadhi and self acceptance, Lisa reminds her students to truly live in their bodies with purpose, attention and conscious awareness rather than just occupying them as a means of getting from place to place ~ an intention she puts to practice every day.
Dharma
Have patience with yourself at all times…Lisa’s inspiration comes from deep personal loss and the realization that no one can take care of your body, mind and soul but you - wisdom she hopes to share with others. One of the hardest choices she ever made was to inhabit her body differently… in a way that was kind and loving. She knows how easy it is to check out, especially in times of stress, grief and suffering. Staying focused and present in each moment allows us to move with the rhythmic flow of the universe and harmonize all aspects of our being into balanced wholeness. She is inspired by her two young girls, Sydney and Myla, watching the way they explore their unique lives is a continual reminder to keep it light, to stay in the moment, and to remain curious.
