Sandy Dennis
The philosophical practices of yoga have helped Sandy work through life’s challenges with equanimity and clarity. After a long career in the corporate world, Sandy was given the opportunity to pursue a different path and discovered her life's calling to teach yoga. Through sharing the experience of yoga with others, Sandy finds great sense of purpose and personal fulfillment; she connects to a rhythm within that allows her heart to sing.
Training
Sandy’s journey to delve deeply into yoga began in 2006 upon completion of the Sivananda Teacher Training Program in Madurai, India. After relocating from California to Oregon, she was inspired to work with her teacher (Max Strom), who has been enormously influential in the development of her teaching style. Sandy’s desire to assist people with chronic physical, mental and emotional issues has broadened her education towards yoga therapy. Sandy is currently pursuing a yoga therapy certification through Loyola Marymount college (L.A.). Sandy is also certified in Kids Yoga (Joyful Yoga, SF 2007) and conducts Chair Yoga classes for Seniors.
Class
Sandy’s classes mirror her joy of helping people discover their strength, flexibility and balance through the exploration of breath and movement. By creating a flow that harmonizes the body and breath, Sandy encourages mindful awareness which helps her students escape the daily stresses of life. Whether students practice on the floor or in a chair, Sandy believes yoga can help people discover their potential regardless of age and physical ability.
Dharma
Sandy’s greatest joy is teaching and educating her students about yoga. Her favorite mantra shared with students is “all things in life are possible”. Given patience, commitment, and the practice of non attachment, eventually all in life is revealed. What was once impossible is now possible and in the process, one is transformed. Sandy’s daily inspiration comes from teaching and working with special needs children who embody the living practice of “yoga in action”.
